FAKANAM Green School specializes in curriculum design and has therefore designed most parts of its curriculum in combination with the American and the South African curriculum for pre-school children.
For children aged 5 to 6, we’re in prime “school readiness” territory—where curiosity meets foundational academics and self-expression flourishes. These learners are eager to explore ideas, ask big questions, and build relationships, so the curriculum should blend structured learning with creative discovery and emotional growth. This stage is about igniting passion for learning while building confidence and autonomy. Here’s a well-rounded curriculum outline for this age group:
Self-registration, free-choice play.
Greetings, calendar, weather, theme of the day.
Shared reading, phonics games, name writing, letter tracing.
Hands-on activities, counting songs, puzzles, math centers.
Healthy eating, manners, open conversation.
Science, culture, geography linked to monthly themes.
Running, ball games, imaginative play.
Crafts, music, building blocks, role-play.
Storybooks, class discussion, student sharing.
Review of the day, packing bags independently.
I belong, families, classroom community.
Maps, transportation, near and far.
Animals, habitats, sustainability basics.
Water cycle, clouds, temperature.
Community helpers, safety, neighbourhood.
Mini homework tasks: sound-of-the-week, drawing prompts, counting games.
Monthly newsletters: curriculum goals, upcoming events, celebration days.
Parent-teacher meetings: developmental snapshots, literacy/numeracy growth.
Every moment in your child’s early years is crucial. Our programs are designed to inspire curiosity, and build essential skills that will last a lifetime.
